Official Competition A competition of about ten films previously unreleased in France, with five prizes awarded : The Grand Prix du Jury is awarded by a Grand Jury composed of actors, actresses, directors, writers. This Jury also gives Best Actor and Best Actress awards. The Prix de la Jeunesse is awarded by a young jury composed of students from the European Community. The Prix du Public is awarded by a jury of Rouen. Each year, we appeal to an artist residing in Normandy to design the trophies in the spirit of his work. For 2006, Frédérique Burel is the selected artist. |

News from the North This section puts together feature films and documentaries, giving an account of the variety of recent production from the North countries (20 films). |

Nordic Crime Stories For several years, crime stories from the North is more often translated into French and released in France where they seem to have taken up. Some writers (Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö, Henning Mankell and their famous inspectors : Beck and Wallander.) enjoy an unremitting and ever-growing audience. Here's an opportunity for the Festival to programme a wide variety of former or recent films (25) accompanied by meetings and debates. |

Jos Stelling A self made filmmaker born in Utrecht in 1945. After several 8 and 16 mm films, His first feature film Marieken van Nieumeghen is selected at the Cannes Film Festival in 1975. Since then, several of his films have been released in France.The Festival screens 7 of his long feature films and 3 short films. One of the most original Dutch director, Jos Stelling has done a lot for Dutch culture : 25 years ago he created the Utrecht Film Festival to give a yearly account of national production. He also leads and programmes two Art & Essais movie theatres in this town. Jos Stelling will conduct a "Lecture on Cinema" |

Arnolds Burovs Born in 1915 in Riga, Arnolds Burovs was set designer then manager of the Doll Theatre in Riga. From 1964 on, he became director of animated dolls films. Held to be the father of Latvian animation, his work is among the most influential ones in Baltic countries. |

Nomadism Documentaries film-makers Markku Lehmuskallio from Finland, Paul Anders Simma (Norwegian), Stefan Jarl (Swedish), Jørgen Roos (Danish) and many others, they all make us discover the life and beliefs of nomads from Northern Europe and Siberia (meetings, lectures). 10 programmes. |

Cinema in Lower-Saxony For three years, within the context of the twinning between the Région Haute-Normandie and the Land of Lower-Saxony, and in association with the Pôle Image de Haute-Normandie, the Festival has presented a selection of short films and feature films from this region. |

Festival and youth Since its creation the Festival has carried various operations towards young audiences : - Screenings in the departments of the Eure and Seine-Maritime during the month of March. - Direction workshops set in primary schools, led by Nordic directors and ending in the creation of films shown during the Festival. - High school classes take part in a work about translation and dialogues of films with lecturers (special screenings). Students of the Lycée Corneille's audiovisual section direct the video news bulletin of the Festival, shown at the theatre Le Melville. The shopkeepers of the City of Rouen will take part in the Festival's dynamic. |
