PRESENTATION

Films are increasingly regarded as goods that have to be profitable as quickly as possible. Each year more than 600 films appear on French screens with more or less fortune. Some benefit from marketing plan bringing them centre stage. The others try their best to make it to movie theatres ever more weakened by the repeated blows from chains coveting the little financial niche they represent.

Film's cultural aspect is threatened and quite a few festivals are already disappearing.
It's on the elected officials' shoulders that lie the protection of these innovation spots.
…But there's room for worrying when some of these officials announce the abandonment of their cultural competence.

The intention behind the programming of the festival's new edition is the desire to be varied and once more proves the amazing vitality of Nordic Film.

Our festival belongs to the small handful of festivals directly subsidized by the Ministère de la Culture. We see in this a sign of acknowledgment encouraging us to move forward.
But for this to be possible Rouen will need to have movie theatres likely to accommodate our Festival…

I dedicate this new edition to our recently deceased friend Roger Balavoine, a keen defender of Culture and an assiduous spectator of the Festival since its creation in 1988.
Bye Roger, we will remember you.

Long live cinema !!!
