Pour la première fois, les Koppelo ont une femme à leur tête : Martta. Devant la détermination des gens du village à les chasser, ils sont obligés de quitter la contrée. Le destin fait appel à Martta pour qu'elle guide la famille à Lieksa, la cité des rêves. L'été arrive, la famille établit son camp près d'un lac. La fragile sérénité que Maria a réussi à installer est soudain rompue par le retour de Lazlo, le mouton noir, banni depuis des années. Sa présence menaçante renvoie les hommes à leurs anciens travers : l'alcool, la bagarre et le vol.
For the first time the Koppelo family is lead by a woman: Martta. The village inhabitants definitely want them out and the family is forced to move. Fate calls upon Martta to lead her people to Lieksa, the city of dreams. Summer comes and the family sets up camp by a lake. The delicate peace that Martta has achieved is disrupted by the return of Lazlo,the black sheep who was expelled years ago. His menacing presence drives the boys of the family to their mischievous ways of drinking, fighting and robbing.
