John, un malfrat à la cinquantaine passée, purge sa peine à la prison de Vestre Fængsel. Son fils se marie et John a légalement le droit d'assister au mariage, escorté par un officier de police. L'officier est un provincial rondouillard qui a fait bonne impression sur le personnel de la prison. Le jour venu, John décide de profiter de l'occasion pour régler ses comptes dans son quartier de Vesterbro au nez et à la barbe du policier. Pendant cette journée, les deux hommes se dévoilent. Petit à petit, il devient clair que celui qu'on pensait normal est loin de l'être et que l'autre n'est finalement pas si mauvais que ça.
John, a career criminal in his early fifties, is serving time in Vestre Fængsel. His son is getting married and he is legally entitled to attend the wedding escorted by a prison officer. The officer, a moonfaced fellow with a provincial background, has made a favourable impression on the warden. It soon becomes apparent that, besides attending the wedding, John has other scores to settle that he doesn’t want the guard finding out about. As the day unfolds, the two men are stripped down mentally. Step by step, we realize that the supposedly normal one of the two is actually far from it, and the other may not be such a bad character after all.
