Ellen Vanderlaan, une jeune et jolie néerlandaise vient de brillamment réussir ses examens. Au lieu d’entamer une carrière prometteuse, elle part pour le Spitzberg passer l’hiver sur la banquise en compagnie de Lars, un trappeur taciturne. Dans la cabane, loin du monde civilisé, la vie est d’abord terriblement décevante. Dehors, la nature est impitoyable et Lars n’est pas très bavard. Ellen commence bientôt à comprendre qu’elle va devoir s’adapter si elle veut survivre. C’est la nuit la plus longue de l’année, c’est l’endroit le plus froid de la terre...
Ellen Vanderlaan, a beautiful young Dutch woman, has just passed her school exams with flying colours. Instead of taking the first steps towards a glorious career, she goes to Spitzberg where she spends a winter among the ice floes in the company of taciturn fur-trapper Lars. At first life in a hut far from the civilized world is a crushing disappointment. The nature outside is merciless and Lars is not very talkative. Soon Ellen realizes she will have to adapt if she wants to survive her stay. It's the longest night in the year; it's the coldest place on Earth...
