Est-il l’idiot du village ou un génie insoupçonné ? Nói, 17 ans, vit sa vie à la dérive dans un fjord isolé du nord de l’Islande. Il s’est construit son petit monde autour de quelques personnes décalées auxquelles son caractère caustique et impertinent insuffle grâce et poésie ; une grand-mère toquée et nostalgique, un bouquiniste inculte qu’il affronte au "Master Mind" lorsqu’il sèche les cours et un père alcoolique et irresponsable qui s’accroche obstinément au temps révolu du rock’n’roll. Et puis, il y a Iris, la fille de la station-service. En hiver, le fjord est coupé du monde, entouré de sinistres montagnes et enterré sous un linceul de neige. Nói rêve de fuir cette prison blanche avec Iris…
Is he the village idiot or a genius in disguise ? 17 year old Nói drifts through life on a remote fjord in the north of Iceland. He has build his own little world around a few people to whom his caustic and impertinent nature inspires grace and poetry : a cracked, nostalgic grand-mother, an uneducated secondhand bookseller who Nói challenges at Master Mind when he is skipping class and an alcoholic father desperately hanging on to rock’n’roll days. And then, there‘s Iris, the girl from the gas station. In winter, the fjord is cut off from the outside world, surrounded by ominous mountains and buried under a shroud of snow. Nói dreams of escaping from this white-walled prison with Iris…
